What you need
- 1 empty egg carton
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Googly eyes
- Grey or white cardstock for ears
- Black spruce twigs for noses and whiskers
- Cotton wool and cress for nests around the mice
- Optional: paint (if you want colored mice)
Step-by-step - How to make the mice
- Open the egg carton and look for the small cone-shaped tips that stick up between the egg cups. These are what will become the mice. You don't need to cut them out or shape them – leave them exactly where they are. It gives the best effect when the mice are "peeking" out from their little holes.
- Paint the body (optional): If you want colored mice, you can paint the cardboard cones grey, white, or any imaginative color you like. Let them dry before proceeding.
- Make and glue on ears: Cut two small oval ears from cardstock for each mouse. To make them look extra nice, you can cut out a small inner part in a different color. Glue the ears onto the back of the tip so they stick out like little radar dishes.
- Attach the googly eyes: Glue the eyes onto the front.
- Give the mice whiskers: Cut out small pieces of spruce and tie a knot in the middle. The knot will serve as the nose, while the loose ends will act as whiskers. Glue them on under the eyes.
- Fill with cotton wool: Fill the spaces in the egg carton with a little cotton wool so they look like small nests and sprinkle cress into them – if you start in good time, the cress might just sprout in time for the Easter table!
