The plant patty – a plant-based twist on a Danish classic

The frikadelle is a staple of Danish cuisine. It is reliable, familiar, and goes with everything from potatoes and gravy to packed lunches and pita bread. But what if you want a more plant-based alternative – without compromising on taste, texture, and versatility?

This is where DAVA organic plant-based frikadellercome into the picture. A plant-based alternative that makes it easy to serve classic frikadelle dishes – just made with plants.

A plant-based patty, with a familiar flavor.

DAVA's organic plant-based patty is based on textured pea and bean protein, which provides a juicy consistency and a texture that resembles the classic Danish frikadelle. The result is a plant-based patty that can both be fried until golden in the pan and used exactly as you would normally use a meatball.

In other words:
It is not a “substitute,” but a plant-based alternative with familiar comfort.

Use the plant-based patties as usual

Part of what makes the plant-based patty particularly easy to work with is its versatility. You can serve the plant-based patties exactly where the traditional meatball usually has its place:

  • With potatoes and classic side dishes
  • In potato salad
  • In pita bread or wraps
  • As a topping in a packed lunch
  • In green bowls or as a protein source in an everyday dish

This makes them obvious choices for everyday meals at home in the kitchen when things just need to be easy.

Easy preparation – ready in 15 minutes

The plant-based patty is easy to work with and requires only a few ingredients to bind the mixture together.

You can choose between two ways to bind the plant-based mixture:

  • With egg - Eggs provide a classic binding and a texture that is very close to traditional meatballs.
  • With psyllium husk (plant-based solution) - If you want a 100% plant-based patty, you can use psyllium husk as a binding agent.

Important to remember:
When using psyllium husk, you must add an extra 1 dl of water to achieve the right consistency and binding.

Once you have mixed the ingredients, let it rest for 15 minutes.

After that, the plant-based patties are shaped and fried as if they were ordinary meatballs.

How to do it

  1. Mix the plant-based pieces with 1 dl of water.
  2. Then add spices and 2 eggs or 7 g of psyllium husk (soaked in the same 1 dl of water).
  3. Stir everything together into a firm mixture.
  4. Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Shape the patties and fry them on medium-high heat until they are cooked through and have a crispy crust.
