The Danish Health Authority recommends reducing meat consumption and increasing plant-based foods. At DAVA Foods, we offer a range of plant-based products focusing on organic, Danish production and quality ingredients. In this category, you will find seeds, flour, and legumes, all of which support plant-based choices with plenty of nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and dietary fibres.
Seeds
Did you know that seeds are packed with nutrients? This makes sense as they are the way plants propagate. Seeds are generally rich in oils, protein, and dietary fibres. In our seed category, we have hemp seeds, flax seeds, and quinoa.
Hemp seeds have a unique nutritional profile and are rich in protein, dietary fibres, and omega-3. Roasted and shelled hemp seeds contain 31g and 26g of protein per 100g, respectively, and include all essential amino acids – those that the body cannot produce and must be obtained through diet.
Unsure how to use hemp seeds? Try them as a topping on your yoghurt for a crunchy touch and a nutty flavour. There are many ways to use hemp seeds – visit our recipe universe for more inspiration.
Flour
With our selection of gluten-free flours, it is easy to increase the protein and fibre content in your baking. Whether you choose quinoa, pea, or hemp flour, you get flours with high fibre and protein content. Hemp flour also offers a relatively high content of omega-3 fatty acids.
Our gluten-free flours can be used in your regular bread dough: In yeast dough, we recommend replacing a small portion of your regular flour, e.g., 10-20%. This is because our flours are gluten-free, and a large replacement can affect the rising ability. In crispbread, you can replace up to 100% of the flour and still get a good result.
All our flours are produced in Denmark under organic conditions.
Legumes
DAVA offers Danish-produced, organic Fuego beans, lentils and peas. Legumes are high in protein and dietary fibres. They are popular in plant-based cooking as their nutritional profile can provide the protein that many otherwise get from meat. The Danish Health Authority recommends about 100g of cooked legumes per day.
A Pea Named Ingrid
Ingrid peas can be used like chickpeas. In terms of colour, the two legumes are similar, but the chickpea is slightly larger than the Ingrid pea, which is similar in size to the green pea. Ingrid peas are a classic variety that has been used since ancient times. However, you shouldn't feel out of the loop if you haven't heard of them before: Ingrid peas haven't been widely used for consumption, but since 2020, they have started to make a comeback.
